Terror in the Philippine’s Safest City

Ginawang katawanan ng ibang netizens…

“Everybody can come in and out of Davao,” he said. “Davao is safe, there is no criminality here except terrorism.” Inquirer

I am one of the of the avid visitors of Davao City. In all the places I have been, from Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao, and even abroad, Davao City is the only place that I wish to live until I get old. My reasons include the memories  I have there, and it has many exciting places to explore that until now, I haven’t explored yet. But one big reason is that; it is the only place that I feel safe.

Growing up in a province where terror is a part of our daily life, Davao is like a haven for me. In my province, people here are open to the possibility that one day, our peaceful town can be the next target of the terrorist group like what happened to the nearest town, Siocon and Ipil before.

I can still remember when I was in high school, we had a dry run to be prepared when unexpectedly attacked by the rebels. Our teachers taught us to be calm and familiarized us of all the safe exit in our school. Receiving a bomb threat is not a joke. We still go to school, but we are mentally alert and prepared.

Hearing stories from our parents about their experience when this town was attacked by this insurgents, seems like a cliche to me now. But somehow, it still creates a fear not for my own safety but for the safety of our younger ones.

Roxas, Davao City Bombing on September 2, 2016

I can still remember how excited I was everytime we go for a vacation in Davao. And it breaks my heart how the bombing incident last Sep 2, 2016 became a laughing stock by some of the anti-Duterte netizens.

It is so sad to think that these netizens who mock and make fun of the Davao bombing seems so happy of the incident. They have found at last, one reason to mock Davao and the President. Well, maybe the lives of the innocents are not important to you than the lives of the criminals. The PNP chief confirmed that the bombing is done by the terrorist group. And even these netizens who just make fun about it can be a victim wherever you are.

I just hope that even though we have different political opinions and loyalties, our sympathy to our fellow Filipino must not dissipate; especially the victims of this bombing are innocents, not like those 2000 criminals that some groups and individuals are ranting about. And let us stop pointing fingers. Some of the Duterte supporters blamed the enemy (LP). Please, in this situation, we need to unite against terrorist and criminals. They are the real enemy..
